Shadows of War, Paths to Justice: Human Rights in Syria

  • Auditorium A2, Maison de la Paix 2 Chemin Eugène-Rigot Genève, GE, 1202 Switzerland (map)

More than a decade after the start of the Syrian conflict, the country now enters a new and uncertain phase following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad. While the formal end of the civil war marks a significant turning point, the post-conflict landscape remains volatile, fragmented, and rife with geopolitical competition and internal tensions. This has raised urgent questions about the nature of governance, the rule of law, and the future of human rights protection in the country: particularly for women, ethnic and religious minorities, and internally displaced populations.

In parallel, Israeli military operations in Gaza, Palestine and southern Syria, allegedly in defense of the Druze population, have led to broader concerns over territorial annexation and the expansion of Israeli regional influence.

As power is reshuffled, serious questions remain about accountability, transitional justice, and the future protection of minority rights in the new Syria. In this fragile and contested context, it is crucial to examine the emerging political order in Syria, its implications for vulnerable communities, and the role of regional and international actors in shaping the country’s future.

Join us for a timely panel talk and discussion on Syria’s emerging political order, the challenges of reconstruction and justice, and the protection of vulnerable communities!
